At Comfort Air, we sell all types of equipment that can help improve the air quality in your home. But did you ever wonder what kinds of pollutants our technology is working hard to protect you from? Whether you’re inside or outside, there are many types of pollutants that you need to be on the lookout for. It’s one of the many reasons that opting for the right air filtration equipment is so important.

Types of Pollutants

Animal Dander

This is one of the most common indoor pollutants for anyone who has a pet, or multiple pets, in their home. Dander from the fur, feathers, or skin of your loyal pet can get into the air and circulate around your home. This can cause more than a few problems for anyone in it, especially if they have allergies. Pet dander can trigger symptoms like sneezing, watery eyes, itchiness, and even asthma attacks in some severe cases. If you have pets and make plans to entertain someone with allergies, you’ll want to have some quality air filtration tech around.

Pollen

Speaking of allergies, pollen is one of the most common allergens floating around in the air during certain seasons. Naturally, you’re far more likely to encounter this pollutant outdoors where the trees and flowers are, but don’t get complacent about it just because you’re inside. It’s easy enough to track in pollen on your clothes or shoes, and that could get moved throughout your home as soon as your HVAC system turns on.

Ozone

Ozone is created on the ground when a variety of volatile, organic compounds interact with each other and sunlight. Ozone pollution can be caused by exhaust from cars, emissions from factories, and so many other things that are a part of everyday life. It can be hard to avoid for that reason, so people with conditions like asthma or COPD have to be careful when living in areas, like cities, that have higher ozone levels.

Carbon Monoxide

Carbon monoxide can also come from cars and other transportation sources. It’s harmful to humans in big enough doses and it can also be found inside. That’s why, in addition to air filtration equipment, it’s so important to install a carbon monoxide detector in your home. High amounts of carbon monoxide in your system can cause anything from headaches and hallucinations to death.

Carbon Dioxide

Carbon dioxide is another common pollutant. Part of the reason for that is that we emit it every time we exhale. Carbon dioxide can also be released when fossil fuels are burned. Fortunately, trees need carbon dioxide to live so they can absorb quite a bit of it. If you’re worried about carbon dioxide levels in your home, the addition of some new plants to your house or apartment can make a big difference.

Methane

Methane is a common gas that’s given off by swamps, livestock, and the burning of fossil fuels. It’s not particularly harmful, but it’s not ideal when high levels of it are present in confined spaces. That’s why the use of air filtration equipment is particularly important in smaller domiciles and offices.
