What do you do when your house feels too hot? Do you simply go push a few buttons on your thermostat to help cool it down? What about when your home is feeling too cold for your comfort? You just go turn up the heat, right? That may seem like the logical thing to do, in both cases, but in reality that could cost you a lot of extra cash in your energy bill.

Of course, when it comes to setting your thermostat that decision is a very personal matter and each person will have his or her own level of comfort. Some people like it very hot, while others enjoy being in shorts and t-shirt all year long. In any case, if you want to save money then you will need to find a temperature you can live with, at an energy cost you can afford.

So with that in mind, here are some general thermostat settings that can usually accomplish both goals. Set your thermostat to 68 degrees when you’re home during waking hours. When you’re not at home, or while you’re sleeping set your thermostat to 65 degrees or lower. You can go even lower and there are some real benefits to setting it way down.

According to the Department of Energy, you can save as much as 10 – 15 percent off your heating bill by turning your thermostat down by 10 – 15 degrees. So instead of changing your thermostat manually every time your house feels to cold, set your thermostat to automatically heat and cool your home. This will save you a lot of money in the end.

I was planning a heater upgrade and received a 24 month no interest offer from Home Depot. They sent me a list of contractors and Comfort Air was the only contractor that called me before I could call anyone else. The customer support, salesperson and installers were fast, competent and incredibly supportive. From the time that I contacted them until the heater was installed was fast and the new heater is a big improvement over what I had before. Highly recommend Comfort Air for fast, efficient and professional service. I feel comfortable that they will be responsive, should there ever be an issue with my new heater!

Bradford the technician has come to our home a couple times and is always professional. I especially appreciate the exceptional customer service in the office. Every time I call, no matter who answers the phone, they always help me and go out of their way to help me understand how to troubleshoot my thermostat/heat pump. Today, I needed to revise an appt time and Rosa called me twice today to make sure she set up the appt for a time that would work for me. Fabulous service!
